Will Spotlighting the Indie Author fall victim to the 7 episode podcast curse? The upgrades have arrived. Were the upgrades worth the money? Can you here the difference in sound quality? Those questions and more are answered in the blog. Issue 147 * Blog 26-2020 * Read Time: 4 Min. - Post Category: General

Hi Joseph E Clay here, yes I’m the same Joseph, Joe and Jo-Jo that host the podcast. You see I’m also the Founder and CEO of Joseph E Clay Dot Com. When in my official capacity I always add the E. It helps to remind me to stay on course with the message at hand, not get cute and stay professional.

The last time I blogged was back June when I penned Spotlighting the Indie Author - Turning the Corner. This is blog is an update to that blog.

As mentioned in The Humble Beginnings and again in Spotlighting the Indie Author - Turning the Corner the statics state that most podcast die before the seventh episode or shortly after. We all at Spotlighting the Indie Author took that statistic to heart and was determined to make sure we didn’t become just another failure to be included in those numbers.

Our first podcast Book Review - Hotel 66 - by Michael King was in February – total downloads 17. Not bad for a show that was recorded using the built in mic on an Inspiron 24-2455 computer. Our last show aired on September 15. We have recorded 12 shows plus a Teaser, 6 above the expected life expectancy of a new podcast. Spotlighting the Indie Author has a total of 663 downloads to date, (9-18-2020). That averages out to 51 downloads per show.

I know what you thinking. There are some podcasts that get 51 downloads in a minute and 663 downloads per show. You are correct, but those shows have been around a while with well-known host and have shows that cover current events and/or politics.

We are growing and are proud and excited about our numbers. Downloads have been on the rise each and every month. Spotlighting the Indie Author broke 100 downloads in a single month in July with 116. We beat that number in August with 153 downloads. With 12 days left in September Spotlighting the Indie Author is sitting at 147.

With that said, we the team, Nina Turnipseed, Kelli Winkler and Christy Warren along with myself promise… Spotlighting the Indie Author is not going anywhere and is full speed ahead.

What do we owe our success to? The listeners of course, without them we have no show. To keep those listeners we must continually strive to improve the show and the quality of the sound.

That brings us to the next segment. I wrote in the blog Spotlighting the Indie Author - Turning the Corner about the upgrades that were planned for the Podcast. For a refresher the upgrades are listed below.

  • Upgrade 1 - Dynamic/XLR upgrade $350.00 [(1) AudioBox USB 96 USB Audio Interface, (2) Shure SM58 Dynamic Mics, (2) Sets of XLR Cables].
  • Upgrade 2 - The RØDECaster Pro Upgrade - 2 person podcast kit $1,299.00 [RØDECaster Pro (Integrated Podcast Production Studio), (2) Rode Procaster Broadcast-Quality Dynamic Microphones, and a ton of other accessories.]
  • Upgrade 3 - Zoom H6 Portable Recorder Upgrade $349.99.

With the Pandemic restricting travel and cancelling events Upgrade 3 has been put a hold till we will be on the road at book fairs and other events.

The good news. Upgrade 1 and 2 are at the Sleepy Cougar Ranch Studios and operational.

The last show that was recorded with the Neewer NW – 7000 Condenser Mics was Episode 8 Book Review - The Boy Who Saw in Colours by Lauren Robinson.

The question I ask in the blog Spotlighting the Indie Author - Turning the Corner was. Will the time saved in post-production and improvement in sound quality be worth the $350.00 investment for Upgrade 1 - Dynamic/XLR? The answer to that question is an astounding yes! The NW – 7000 Condenser Mics can’t hold a candle to the Shure SM58 Dynamic Mics. The mic it’s self gives a better sound and reduces noise. Using XLR cables also increases the sound quality.

Shows recorded using Upgrade 1.
Episode 9 Book Review - Muerte - Death is What I Do, by John W. Wood; With Special Guest John W. Wood.
Episode 10 Book Review – Red Sandy Cat Detective, by JA Stone
Episode 11 Special Guest - Author J.B. Lion - The Seventh Spark: Volume One – Knights of the Trinity

As I mentioned above Upgrade 2 is also in the studio. After the kit arrived and I set it up I knew they would be a learning curve. After several test runs we decided there was no time like present. Episode 12 Book Review – Mike Stone Texas Ranger by Patrick Lindsay was recorded using Upgrade 2.

Check out the blogs for each show to see what system was used for that particular podcast and let us know if you the listener can tell a difference in the sound quality.

As you can see none of this free. If you enjoy the show, have been a guest on the show or had your worked featured or just believe in what we are doing, help us out. A donation of any amount through PayPal would be great and help with hosting fees and paying the bills.

Till next time, thank you all for listening and please continue to do so and tell all your friends about us.

Podcast Title: Book Review - The Boy Who Saw in Colours by Lauren Robinson

Episode 8 Hosted by: Nina Turnipseed and Joseph Clay - Announcer/Voice Actor: Kelli Winkler and Caleb Winkler. Caleb can be contacted through his mother Kelli Winkler.

Why did Spotlighting the Indie Author use a child voice actor for episode 8. A connection to the book and effect. The book blurb found on the back of the paperback, is Josef (Pronounced Yosef) the protagonist of The Boy Who Saw in Colours telling his story.

Caleb wasn’t our first choice, he was plan C. Nina suggested we start getting the Authors to read the blurb. We thought this was a grand idea. With the author reading the blurb the listener can hear the author’s voice and how they set the tone for the book with the blurb.

We contacted Lauren Robinson the author and she agreed to do the blurb. However due to technical difficulties she was unable to get the audio track to us. We went with Plan C, and it was the right choice, the author was pleased.

Nina, Kelli, Caleb and Joseph have 4 very distinct voices. Alitu did a wonderful job blending them together and leveling them out. If you are having sound issues and/or want to speed up post production we recommend giving Alitu a try, the trial is free.

You may have noticed some format changes. These changes are designed to make the podcast flow smoother and cut out the parts listeners skip or just plain out stop listening. Once all the changes are incorporated we’ll cover them in a blog.

We have enlisted the listeners to help us offset some of the cost of the podcast and magazine. We have started a Patreon page and also a PayPal account to take donations. Pleae join us in supporting the Indie Community

Is a sound check before a podcast necessary? Read on to find out the answers to those questions. Issue 143 * Blog 22-2020 * Read Time: 2 Min. - Post Category: Podcast Notes

Podcast Title: Book Review We’re all Liars…101 Ways to Live the Truth - Special Guest Robert Biehn Author

Before we get into the blog, Joseph would like to apologize to Robert for his poor interview performance. Spotlighting the Indie Author would like to thank our guest Robert Biehn for being patient and working with us through the technical difficulties.

No, it's wasn't a problem with Skype this time. This was a user error. The host Joseph Clay was using a headset to hold the conversation with Robert Biehn. Through the headset Joseph could hear an echo of his voice. After ending the call to do a sound check which should have been done before the interview, Joseph found the problem.

He failed to unplug his regular podcast mic. As he was talking through the headset his other mic, which was overhead was picking up his voice also. Shaking his head he unplugged it and recalled Robert.

Speaking of Skype...As you may remember we had some issues with the connection during the interview with Lauren Robinson in Episode 6. You can read all about that in Podcast Notes Episode 6 .

The call made to Lauren was an overseas call, Robert’s was domestic. The connection on the domestic call for the most part held together throughout the conversation. There was a couple of instances where the connection was lost, but it reconnected within less than a second.

Podcast Title: Episode 6: Special Guest - Author Lauren Robinson - The Boy Who Saw in Colours

Before we get into the blog, Spotlighting the Indie Author would like to thank our guest Lauren Robinson for being patient and working with us through the technical difficulties.

We faced our fears in Episode 6 along with some challenges. The episode was our first interview of an author not associated with Spotlighting the Indie Author.

The Challenge: The Author Lauren Robinson resides in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland's time zone is 6 hours ahead of Nashville, Tennessee. We needed a night owl for this interview.

The Fear: The interview would take place using Skype to connect the Interviewer and Interviewee. For more on this read our blog Spotlighting the Indie Author - Turning the Corner. to better understand what I fears with Skype are.

Spotlighting the Indie Author sent their night owl who also happens to be the best interviewer we have up to this point to the plate.

The Goal: Share enough information about the authors debut novel, The Boy Who Saw in Colours to peak the listeners curiosity increasing book sales.

The interview was informative as well as being entertaining. The parties were upbeat and appeared to enjoy the conversation they were having. The questions asked allowed the listeners to learn about Lauren Robinson the author and person. The discussion the two had about The Boy Who Saw in Colours stirred the pot of curiosity.

Conclusion, Goal: Accomplished

Equipment: Joseph records with a USB mic. This meant he would have to listen to the conversation using the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones. To simplify the connections we purchased an Astro A10 Headset. Cost $59.99. This gave us one computer connection that allowed Joseph to hear and talk.

The mic on the Astro A10 Headset is not the best, but it's not bad either. The voice comes through clear and has life to it. Of course you can hear the difference between the headset and Joseph's regular podcast mic. This difference is noticeable during the podcast. Explanation below.

This prompted Nina to research headsets for one that would give us broadcast quality. She didn't like the fact that Astro A10 Headset was designed for gaming and became uncomfortable after about two hours or less. Nina found the perfect solution. The Audio-Technica BPHS1, cost $199.00 or the Audio-Technica BPHS2, cost $349.00. Both are broadcast headsets with dynamic boom microphones. We will do more research on these then add one or the other to our future upgrade list.

Now to our friend and enemy Skype. The connection to start with was nice and clear. The longer the conversation went on the more distorted the voices became. At one point it got so bad they had to stop the conversation, back up to the previous question and restart.

Joseph mentioned in the blog Spotlighting the Indie Author - Turning the Corner. that he didn't like the fact that you couldn't see what was being recorded while using the MP3 Skype Recorder Pro Edition, like in a DAW. This is why that is important.

Once the session ended the MP3 Skype recording was opened in the DAW (Audacity). After listening to it there were a couple of sections that Joseph's voice didn't record, but Lauren gave the answers to the missing question. This proves she heard Joseph, it just didn’t get recorded. There were sections where Joseph's voice recorded but Laurens didn't or her answers was so distorted the segment could not be used.

Joseph contacted Lauren and she gracefully agreed to redo those sections that her answers didn't record or did but could not be used. Joseph and Lauren repeated the process the next morning completing the podcast.

Here’s the expiation from above. To save time in post-production, Joseph went ahead and re-recorded the questions for the segments that had the answers, but no questions. Without thinking he used his normal mic for the first one. He decided to leave it in as a comparison. The others he used the Astro A10 Headset.

You can still tell a difference in the sound quality with the questions that were re-recorded straight to the DAW with the Astro A10 Headset. This will give you a comparison between a Skype recording and recording straight to a DAW.

There is no other way to put this. I hate the MP3 Skype recorder Pro edition for the following reason. No matter how you record, stereo or mono, both voices are on a single track. That makes it hard to remove background noise. There was not a lot in this episode but there were some and it was loud and distracting. Some of it was behind either the guest’s voice or the host’s. For these instances we tried to use noise reduction to eliminate them. That didn't work. Once the back ground noise was removed, the voices became distorted.

This is where I have to give Alitu, an automated podcast producer, credit and don't mind the monthly subscription fee. Once the podcast was pieced together in Audacity we moved it to Alitu. They leveled the voices and sounds out. The background noise is still there but doesn’t distract from the show as the voices of Lauren and Joseph are front and center with a music bed behind them.

It will also cover the cost associated with a podcast, equipment and programs. Along with mistakes to avoid and tips. Issue 139 * Blog 18 -2020 * Read Time: 10 Min. Post Category: General

Episode 4 was a turning point for Spotlighting the Indie Author. Why was it a turning point?

Well let me tell me. Christy mentioned in our blog The Humble Beginnings that most podcast die before the seventh episode or shortly thereafter. Episode 4 put us over the half way point to seven episodes.

We may only have four episodes under our belt but we have come a long way since Episode 1 Book Review - Hotel 66 - by Independent Author Michael King. Remember we recorded that episode using the built in mic on an Inspiron 24-2455 computer.

After Episode 4 we knew we were in this for the long haul as we were having too much fun. We realize we have more to learn and upgrades to make. We’ll get to all that in a few. First I would like to tell you what Episode 4 accomplished.

Episode 4 was the end of what Nina called on the job training. Each main co-host, Nina and Joseph has aired an individual podcast. They have also aired one together. Episode 4 took care of Nina's first interview. Joseph has interview experience so he is interview ready.

What does all that mean?

Spotlighting the Indie Author will no longer be using blogs that appear on ThunderHorse Publishing as scripts and reviewing books that were released years ago. The reviews will be of books that have been published within the last 12 months. Spotlighting the Indie Author will now be interviewing independent authors and others not affiliated with Joseph E Clay Dot Com. We will have Indie Authors on the show to discuss their upcoming releases, book launches along with interviewing them. We will also be interviewing others that can help the Indie Author be successful.

Now on to the improvements the hosts need to make. Then what upgrades need to be made with the equipment and programs. These changes will make the podcast as professional as it can while still entertaining and informative.

Hosts:

When the show began we had two host, Nina Turnipseed and Joseph Clay.

Since then Christy Warren joined us on Episode 3 and then again on Episode 4. Christy will get more involved and helping out with book reviews.

Kelli Winkler, Announcer and Co-Host Sub first appeared in Episode 4. She was a co-host alongside Joseph in Episode 5. Kelli will be voicing the credits, adverts and teasers in future shows. She will also co-host when the need arises. Kelli will also be helping Joseph with the post-production.

Kelli records from her home studio, the rest of us record from our home, Christy appears on the show remotely using Skype. Kelli is the only one of the four that has broadcast experience. We all hope to pick up tips from her.

Nina, Joseph and Christy are getting better, episode by episode, but there is still a lot to learn and techniques to be mastered.

  • Learn proper microphone distancing
  • Work on not sounding as if reading from a script.
  • Work on letting the unique personalities of each come through in their voices.
  • Be more spontaneous, the script is nothing more than notes. Come off script and improvise if there is something a host wants to add.

Equipment

Some of the problems Nina, Joseph and Christy are having are not their fault as the issues are with the equipment and programs. Well maybe not with the programs. That could from the lack of knowing how to use the post production program.

I’ll start with the equipment.

Equipment being used at the time of this blog:

  • Neewer 8 – in - 1 Microphone Accessory Kit. (To see what all was in the kit read The Humble Beginnings )
  • Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones

The Neewer NW-7000 included in the Neewer 8 – in - 1 Microphone Accessory Kit improved the sound over the built in computer mic 100 fold. The Neewer NW-7000 is a condenser USB microphone which is great in a studio, not that good for home use. A condenser mic picks up a ton of background noise. The mic has recorded our beagle barking upstairs and airplanes flying overhead. Background noise such as that adds to post production headaches especially for someone who has never done it before now.

Once the Neewer 100 headphones that was included in the Neewer 8 – in - 1 Microphone Accessory Kit snapped we upgraded. We replaced them with the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones. The cost, around $100.00 a pair. There is no way to compare to the two headphones. The Neewer 100’s were like toys compared to Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. That’s when it dawned on us that maybe upgrading and spending a little more money on a microphone would give us another 100 fold increase in sound.

We began our research. We knew the issues the Neewer NW – 7000 was causing so we wanted something that would correct that by eliminating some of the background noise.

Once the research was complete we knew we needed to switch from a Condenser mic to a Dynamic mic. Dynamic mics are supposed to isolate the main sound source and minimize background noise. We didn’t want to go cheap, but we didn’t want to break the bank either. We decided that we would stay around a $100.00 for a single mic.

The next step was to watch hours of comparison videos and reading reviews on mics in our price range. We decided to go with the trusted Shure SM58 Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone. The mic is tailored for vocals, with brightened midrange and bass roll-off. Cost $99.00.

Choosing the Shure SM58 mics would require some additional equipment. The mic uses XLR connections instead of a USB. We knew this up front as our research indicated that a Dynamic mic with XLR connections would gave us the best sound possible. This means we need an interface. For now we have decided to go with the PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 Audio Interface. Cost $99.00.

Dynamic/XLR upgrade $350.00

  • (2) Shure SM58
  • (1) AudioBox USB 96 USB Audio Interface
  • (2) Sets of XLR Cables

That’s $250 dollars more than the two Neewer 8 – in - 1 Microphone Accessory Kits that we are currently using. The Neewer kit cost $47.79 each.

Making this upgrade will also help on post-production. Right now Nina records, in her DAW, Joseph in another. The files are then mixed together. Then Christy and Kelli’s voices are added. This upgrade will cut out one of those steps. The question is will the time saved and improvement in sound quality be worth the $350.00 investment. I guess only time will tell.

Although I hope you, as the listener will be able to hear when Spotlighting the Indie Author begins using the Dynamic/XLR upgrade it will also be noted in the Podcast notes.

Programs

As mentioned Christy is recorded via Skype using the MP3 Skype recorder Pro edition, cost around $15.00 per license. The license is one-time payment with free minor updates and any major updates within 1 year. I like this as it’s not a monthly service. However there is several things I don’t like about using this method.

First the MP3 Skype recorder Pro edition puts the voices on a single track. Record in stereo, one voice is on the left side the other on the right, but they do show seperated in the DAW as it is a stero track. Recording in mono gets the same result but the voices are shown on a single mono track in the DAW. This makes it hard in post-production to remove background noise. Example, I cough as Christy is talking. Since our voices are on one track if I remove the cough, it removes Christy’s voice. Use to much noise reduction and the voices begin to distort.

Next, I can’t see what is being recording, like spikes. It’s also hard to hear any background noise that may sneak in.

With Skype the connection is unreliable. This worries me as Episode 6, will be with an author who lives in Northern Ireland.

What bothers the most, Christy’s voice doesn’t sound like ours. To a point that is acceptable and is expected since she is at a remote location and not recording into a DAW. However it’s flat for some reason.

We spent some time researching and Skype seems to be the go to system for remote guest and host. So I guess we have the right program, still not sure there is not an easier way to handle remotes.

During the research we ran across what we hope are some solutions.

To make the Skype connection more reliable Skype suggested the following. When making a call make sure that both parties have a strong internet signal. The way to do this is make sure both participants are close to their routers or their router is hard wired to the computer. They also suggest that each participant have a microphone and not use the built in computer mic or use the phone without a mic attached to it. They also suggested not to use a mic that connected via bluetooth.

I also ran across something that may solve the problem with Christy’s voice.

First, record the session in stereo. That way after you move the recording to your DAW you can see both voices and where any back ground noises may be. Once the recording is in your DAW, we use Audacity, cost FREE, make all the post-production edits needed. Once you are ready to download the file, don’t. Before downloading select the track of the Skype recording to highlight it. From the “Tracks” tab found in the menu, select “Mix” then “Mix Stereo Down to Mono.” This puts both voices on a single mono track. Now download it. During the download Audacity will mix the track or tracks into one stereo track.

This was what I was doing wrong. Since I recorded in stereo I was leaving the file as is. Once it was downloaded I was still getting one voice on the right and one on the left. By doing the above I was now getting both voices equally on each side.

We have also decided that a headset, with a good built in mic may be in Christy’s future. This will help capture her voice and improve quality.

As mentioned above we use Audacity as our DAW. We are learning more about how to use the program and are getting comfortable with it. However we still use our back up plan. Once everything is complete in Audacity we load the file to Alitu. Alitu is an automated podcast producer. Alitu is a subscription service and charges $28.00 monthly.

Since Kelli came on board she has been a huge help with post-production. We are hoping that in the near future we can drop Alitu and put that money to use on equipment.

Speaking of equipment. We are positive the Dynamic/XLR upgrade mentioned earlier will once again improve sound quality. However while we were researching mics we ran across a ton of goodies that pertains to Podcasting. Nina and I compiled a list of future equipment and programs to give us the best sound quality possible.

Future equipment and programs

Zoom H6 Portable Recorder Upgrade $349.99

Since we will already have the Shure SM58 mics this upgrade will allow us to record from remote locations such as book fairs and signings or any other event.

The RØDECaster Pro Upgrade - 2 person podcast kit $1,299.00

The RØDECaster Pro is the granddaddy podcast studio. The RØDECaster Pro alone runs around $599.00 at the time of this blog. The two person podcast kit, price above, is available at B&H and comes with the following.

  • RØDECaster Pro (Integrated Podcast Production Studio)
  • AC Adapter
  • USB Cable
  • 2 x Rode Procaster Broadcast-Quality Dynamic Microphone
  • 2 x Rode PSM1 Shockmount for Rode Podcaster or Procaster Microphone
  • 2 x Roland Black Series Heavy-Duty XLR to XLR Balanced Microphone Cable (10')
  • RM2 Stand Mount
  • ZP1 Zip Pouch
  • 2 x O.C. White ProBoom Elite Mic Boom Arm and Desktop Clamp
  • O.C. White ProBoom Elite Microphone Arm O.C.
  • White Light Duty Table Edge Clamp for ProBoom Junior or Elite Microphone Arm
  • SanDisk 32GB Ultra UHS-I microSDHC Memory Card (Class 10)
  • microSD Adapter

This upgrade will allow us to do it all and sound professional as we do. With the interrogated bluetooth and 3.5mm dedicated channel we can eliminate Skype all together and record remote host or guest or both right into The RØDECaster Pro via phone. Once this upgrade is incorporated another upgrade will never be needed as the system will grow as we grow. Here is where to find out more about the The RØDECaster Pro Production Studio

DAW Upgrade $95.00

There is a DAW just made for broadcasters, podcasters and radio sound engineers. The program is the Hindenburg Journalist. The program is not free but it’s not a monthly subscription either. The onetime fee is listed above. We are looking at reviews of the Hindenburg Journalist and trying to learn more about it. If we can get the same sound quality from Hindenburg Journalist as we do Alitu or better it may be worth the one time investment. We do expect there is a learning curve and in order for us to switch it must be easy to use. We will inform you of our decision once it’s made.

I know this was a long blog, but we had a lot to cover to explain why Spotlighting the Indie Authorhad turned corner and what to expect as we moved forward.

Podcast Title: Episode 4: Interview - Joseph Clay Indie Author

Episode 4 was recorded with a Neewer NW-7000 microphone, using Audacity as the DAW. The files were then sent to Alitu where the finish touches were added. Co-Host Christy Warren was recorded using Skype MP3 recorder then transferred to the DAW.

Equipment update: The headband, which was made of plastic of the Neewer 100 headphones that was included in the Neewer 8 – in - 1 Microphone Accessory Kit snapped as Nina was removing them after this show. To see what came in the Neewer kit read The Humble Begginings. Since we had to replace them we decided to upgrade.

After doing some comparison shopping we decided on 2 sets of Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones. The cost, around $100.00 each before tax and shipping.

I know one set of headphones cost us about as much as we paid for the 2 Neewer 8 – in - 1 Microphone Accessory Kits. The build of the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones are for more superior than the Neewer 100 headphones. There is comparison when it comes to sound quality. The Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones win in comparison hands down when it comes to mixing the tracks of the Podcast in Audacity. I highly recommend these headphones for all podcasters. Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones data.

Does anyone know why headphones are referred to as “Cans” in the broadcast industry? Who came up that one?

When we started Spotlighting the Indie Author podcast we set a guideline for the length of a podcast to fall between 5-30 minutes. The Show Teaser, which should have been posted first, we didn't know we needed one till after two shows in, came in at 3 minutes. That's ok as they are not supposed to be long. To read all about that check out our blog A Teaser? Who Knew, Not Me!

Episode 4 came in at almost 42 minutes. That’s 12 minutes over the higher end of the guideline. We debated whether to cut it down or make it a two part series. We may have shot ourselves in the foot by deciding to air it in its original length. We made this decision after listening to it. The show moved along at a good pace and was entertaining as well as informative.

With that bit of data we decided to change the high end of the guidelines from 30 minutes in length to 45 minutes.

Episode 4 was the first show we used hired voice over talent. We thought that this worked well as it broke up the podcast with a different voice for adverts, credits and other segments that didn’t pertain to the main body of the podcast. Kelli Winkler was the voice talent we used. We hoping to use Kelli for all future podcast and maybe get her to co-host a few episodes.

We would like to thank all of you for reading the blog and listening to Spotlighting the Indie Author Podcast.

Podcast Title Episode 3: Book Review - Promise Me Always by G. Michelle

Update on author G. Michelle

Hello listeners Joseph Clay here. I personally know G. Michelle. When I noticed the differences between the E-book and printed version I contacted her. Before I could explain them to G. Michelle she informed me she was at work and busy. She inquired if she could me back. Of course I let her know that would be fine. That was over four years ago.

I know she no longer lives in TN and has been moving around. Neverless I tried to reach out to her once again before this podcast aired. Once again I had no luck. This is a shame as she has what it takes to be an author, a good author.

Her last post on her Facebook page was May of 2017, she changed her profile picture.

The last post she made a statement in was dated August 1, 2016. Below is that post.

“There have been several devastating family related incidents this summer that have effected the completion and release of book two. Hopefully I'll get back on track soon.”

I wish G. Michelle all the best and hope one day she returns to the keyboard and finishes her second book Promise Me Redemption.

Podcast Notes

Today’s show, Episode 3 is the first episode we used a co-host who was in a remote location. Christy Warren the Executive Assistant Of Joseph E Clay Com works from her Texas home. We used Skype’s MP3 recorder. I didn’t like the sound quality at all. I don’t know if it was Skype, Christy’s phone or the apparatus she was using, head set, or other hands free device. This is something we have to work on and have worked out before we do interviews with remote guest.

Episode 3 was recorded and mixed the same as Episode 2. We continued to use music beds, record in Audacity using the Neewer NW-7000 mic. We edited and spliced together the segments in Audacity then transferred the file to Alitu for the finishing touches.
We still learning about audio editing, but we are getting there.

Thanks for listening and reading,
Joseph Clay-

Podcast Title: Eposide 2 - Book Review - Woman With A Gun - by Phillip Margolin

Podcast Notes

Today’s show, Episode 2 was recorded into Audacity using a Neewer NW-7000 USB Condenser microphone. Post production consisted of EQ, Compression and Normalization within Audacity. The file was then sent to Alitu for polishing and insertion of adverts and teasers along with Intro/outro music.

Episode 2 is the first episode we laid a music bed in and used intro/outro music. We used Audacity for the body of the podcast and Alitu for the adverts, teaser and intro/outro music.
We still have a lot to learn about audio editing. However the difference between Episode 1 Book Review - Hotel 66 - by Michael King and episode 2 made a big difference, a jaw dropping difference.

Thanks for listening and reading,

Podcast Title : Episode 1: Book Review - Hotel 66 - by Michael King

Update on author Michael King and Hotel 66.

ThunderHorse Publishing purchased this book in September of 2019. Between then and now it disappeared from the internet. Poof gone. Hotel 66 is no longer available on any eBook outlet. The book was originally published to Smashwords, Rakuten Kobo and Apple Books in September of 2019. A different book cover represented the tale on each site.

There was no data found on Michael King. We found a Michael King who is an author and a New Zealand historian. He passed in 2004 fifteen years before Hotel 66 was written and published. Please don't be mistaken, Hotel 66 was not written by this Michael King.

Joseph would never pat himself on the back but he believes Hotel 66 was pulled from the market due to the plagiarism he mentioned in the podcast. We can't be positive and the only way to find out for sure was to contact the author. Since Michael King the author of Hotel 66 can't be found we here at ThunderHorse Publishing are leaning towards Joseph’s assumption.

There is a valuable lesson to be learned here. Don’t plagiarize, write your own work, if you can’t don’t write at all!

Podcast Notes

Todays show was recorded on a Inspiron 24-2455 computer using the built in mic. There was now post production modifications made. We later learned that this was a mistake. We are shopping for a suitable mic and audio editing program to improve sound quality.

Thank you for reading and listening
